There are three main areas of activity at the Australian Games Expo:
The Australian Games Expo was the brainchild of Phil Davies, Managing Director of Mind Games Albury and Canberra, and is modelled on the Essen Spiel games fair.
Every October, a staggering 150,000 people from all over the world flock to Essen, Germany, for its famous games fair. Now in its twenty-first year, the world's largest game fair attracted a mere thousand visitors in its first year.
Like the Essen games fair, the Australian Games Expo is not a trade fair. It is a family-oriented event that is open to the public, giving every attendee an opportunity to sample the hundreds of games on offer.

The Australian Games Expo maintains close links with other similar fairs and expos around the world, including the Chicago International Toy and Game Fair.
